Catering
In the beginning...
The Poudre Catering class was established in 2008, as a class for the students who excelled in the gourmet foods classes, and wished to possibly pursue a career in food services. Established by the Consumer and Family Studies teacher Cathy Toplyn, the class has been a great success. The class participates in numerous catering events during the semester. The students will cook the food the day of, or a day before the event, and then serve the food at the location. We cater an average of fifteen events during a semester, which gives the students experience working in the industry and gives them a chance to help their community.
Poudre High School Catering Program
The students study food in today's society while learning to plan and prepare gourmet specialty foods. These experiences include study and research of various cultures around the world and preparations of food from these cultures. Throughout the curriculum, the students will practice food safety and sanitation skills. They plan menus based on standardized recipes to meet the consumers' needs. The course content includes preparation for all menu categories to produce a variety of food products. The students learn how to manage and work in a catering environment and gain knowledge of both the foods and market they are sold and bought in.. Throughout the year the students will participate in catering jobs requested by a certain event or occasion. For information on getting your event catered, contact us.
