Who We Are963

The Poudre Wind Ensemble has earned a reputation as one of the finest High School bands in Colorado. The group annually performs around the area at several festivals, and gives 6 concerts at Poudre. The 45-50 member group plays an extremely diverse repertoire, that is both musically and technically demanding. 10-12 graders are eligible to audition for membership in the group. This years' selections include works by Whitacre, Ives, Grainger, Holst and many others. We're looking forward to a very exciting year! Private lessons are a great way to get your music ready for the concert, chair test, audition, maybe someday for a SCHOLARSHIP!

What We Do

The Poudre Wind Ensemble and it's members have enjoyed much success and recognition the past few years. As an ensemble, we've received Straight Superior ratings at the CHSAA Large Group Festival since 1998 (the group's first year). We've been invited to perform at the Lewis-Palmer Concert Festival and the Northern Colorado Concert Festival the past several years and on April 23, 2006 the group made it's Carnegie Hall Debut. Last year 12 students were accepted to the CSU Honor Band, a group made up of 110 students representing 45 Colorado high schools. No school had higher representation! In addition 3 Poudre students made the highly select Colorado All-State Band and Orchestra groups. Last years Seniors accumulated over $15,000 in Music Scholarship awards! Of course, most of these students take private lessons on their instrument(s).

When We Perform 2010-11

Playing Test

Wind Ensemble Chair Tests

Wind Ensemble members will have 3 playing tests each semester. You'll need to video tape them in the Music Tech Lab, as always. The first test is the Rotating Major Scales #1, then All-State 2008 music for CSU Honor Band, followed by Rotating Major Scales #2. That is the First Semester line-up. For Second Semester, you'll have Rotating Harmonic Minors #1, Rotating Harmonic Minors #2 then an excerpt from our CBA Festival music. Please see the due dates for each of the tests below.  As always, if you'd like some help on the music, come see Mr. Petersen or Mr. Leonard. We'd be very happy to help you out!

Playing Test Due Dates for 1st Semester:
