Knowledge Bowl

Mock Trial Team
• This competitive team receives a fictional court case from the Colorado Bar Association Mock Trial group. Working with attorney coaches and the team sponsor, team members prepare a defense and prosecution for the case, and compete against other teams in a regional in late February.
• Season is October through mid-March, with once-per-week practices.

Ocean Bowl
• Quiz Bowl format competition, with about 500 high school teams participating nationwide.
• Topics include: Oceanography, Currents, Tides, Chemistry, Pollution, Commercial Use, Oceanic Zoology, Botany, Geography, Geology, and Laws of the Sea.
• Practices begin after school in October and the state competition is at CU the first Saturday in March. The winning team receives an all-expense paid trip to the National Finals, compliments of NOAA, NASA, CORE, and the US Department of Navy.
• Poudre's Team Accolades:
•Finished 3rd in Nationals in 2004
•Finished 2nd in Nationals in 2006, winning a trip to Bermuda
•Has won the state competition 9 times since 2000

Odyssey of the Mind
• Teams for Odyssey of the Mind at PHS will be forming in early Fall.

Robotics Team
• The team receives a problem, which is in the form of the game rules, and the team has 6 weeks to design and build a robot to compete in the game.
• The team is divided into subgroups.

Science Bowl
• Quiz Bowl format competition, with about 1,900 high school teams nationwide.
• Topics include: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Math, Earth Sciences, and Astronomy.
• Practices begin after school in October and the state competition is at CSU the first Saturday in February. The winning team receives an all expense paid trip to the National Finals in Washington, CD, compliments of the USDOE.
• Poudre's Team Accolades:
•National Champs in 2007 (received a 3-week trip to Australia for the International Youth Science Summit in Sidney)
•Finished 5th in Nationals in 2010
•Has won the state competition 7 times since 2000

Science Olympiad
• Practical Lab format competition, with about 2,500 high school teams nationwide from 48 states.
• Teams of 15 students competing in pairs in 23 different science and engineering problems.
• Practices begin after school in October. The Regional Meet is in March and then the State Meet is in April at Colorado School of Mines. The winning team gets the opportunity to attend Nationals in May.
