Poudre High School Academic Honesty Policy
Academic Honesty is a belief held by the Poudre High School learning community that all students are responsible for the authenticity of their own work. Furthermore, all members of this community – students, teachers, administrators, and staff – take ownership of their own written, visual, or audio work and its originality, explicitly noting when the work of another has been included in theirs.
While there is only one set of values and skills that constitute academic honesty, there are many forms of academic misconduct or malpractice. Academic misconduct or malpractice is a behavior by a student that results in that student gaining an unfair advantage over another student or receiving credit for work that is simply not, in part or in its entirety, his/her own work. Examples of Academic Dishonesty include, but are not limited to: copy and pasting work with out proper citation, plagiarizing, cheating on assignments or assessments, using other’s work in any fashion, or sharing your own work in order to gain an advantage over other students or to get credit for work that is not one's own, using unauthorized electronics on an assignment or assessment, sharing or giving answers on an assessment, and taking assessments outside of the testing room without permission.
Students found to be in violation of the Academic Honesty policy of Poudre High School, or academic honest policy on the Teacher’s syllabus, may have the following consequences, which will be determined by the teacher and administrator.
· A conference with the teacher, student, and/or administrator
· A phone call to students’ parent or guardian
· An opportunity for the student to re-do the assessment or assignment for full or partial credit
· Receive a zero on the assessment or assignment
· Academic probation
· Suspension
· Other consequences determined by the teacher and administrator
Artificial Intelligence (AI) at Poudre High School
Poudre High School supports the thoughtful use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools to enhance learning while maintaining academic integrity. Students may use AI only when permitted by their teacher, and they are responsible for ensuring that all submitted work reflects their own thinking, understanding, and judgment. Any ideas, text, images, or other material generated with AI must be clearly acknowledged and cited to maintain transparency in the learning process. Using AI to produce work that is presented as entirely one’s own, without permission or disclosure, constitutes academic misconduct. Students are expected to review AI-generated content critically, recognizing potential bias or inaccuracies, and to be able to explain their learning and process. This policy will evolve as our district provides additional guidance on the ethical and effective use of AI in education.
AI at PHS: What You Need to Know
You can use AI only when your teacher says it’s allowed.
Different assignments have different expectations. Always check the directions.
Your work must still be your work.
AI can help you brainstorm or practice, but the final product needs to show your thinking, your understanding, and your voice.
If you use AI, you must say so.
Be honest and clear. A simple note like “I used [AI tool] to help generate ideas for this section” is enough unless your teacher asks for more detail.
AI isn’t always right—double-check everything.
AI tools can be biased, inaccurate, or made-up. You’re responsible for checking facts and making sure your work is correct.
Using AI to do the work for you is academic misconduct.
Copying AI-generated text or images and turning them in as your own is the same as copying someone else’s work. If you’re not sure, ask your teacher.
You should be able to explain your process.
Your teacher may ask how you used AI or why you chose not to use it. Being able to talk about your process shows authenticity and understanding.
We’re all learning how to use AI responsibly.
AI tools are new for everyone. Your teachers will help you learn how to use them in safe, ethical, and effective ways.
