READ Act

READ Act Support at PHS

The Colorado Reading to Ensure Academic Development Act (SB 19-199 – The Colorado READ Act) focuses on literacy assessment and development for students determined to have Significant Reading Deficiencies (SRDs) at the end of 3rd grade. The goal of the Colorado READ Act is to ensure that a student’s reading skills are strong enough to enable the student to master the standards and expectations at each grade level.  A student that is on a READ Plan, remains on such a plan until they reach grade-level proficiency that is determined by a body of evidence.  (adapted from the PSD READ Act Guidebook for Secondary Students, 2020).

At Poudre High School, students with READ Plans will be assessed throughout the year to monitor progress toward their individual reading goals. The READ Support Team reviews all incoming and continuing READ Plans to ensure students will receive the support and services needed in their general education and supplemental reading courses. READ Plans will be monitored and updated yearly until students reach grade-level proficiency.

The READ Support team at Poudre High School includes:
Jen Musci - READ Act Coordinator and English Teacher
Erin Gilbert - MTSS Coordinator
Shannon Evans - Integrated Services and Reading Skills Teacher
