Physical Education

The Poudre High School Physical Education Department adopts a holistic approach to student health and wellness. This is reflected in the wide variety of classes and learning experiences we offer here- ranging from the classroom to the weight room, from the computer to the court, from the yoga studio to the rock climbing wall. Our Physical Education instructors live and teach by the philosophy that the greatest wealth truly is mental, physical, emotional, social, relational and physical health.

Our core values as a department include Growth, Respect and Family. Therefore, regardless of which class they choose to take here, students enrolled in Physical Education at PHS can expect to learn how to:

-Be a constant learner and use a growing vocabulary to explain their understanding with increasing depth

-Create and follow a plan to improve personal wellness, as well as evaluate the effectiveness of their plan and make adjustments based on progress

-Apply feedback  to improve performance

- Take  appropriate risks in order to challenge themselves

-Use uplifting language when referring to themselves, their peers and teacher, while demonstrating strategies to improve social and emotional wellness

-Practice active listening, communicate effectively and respectfully with all students

-Follow safety guidelines and apply personal safety knowledge and skills to prevent harm

-Use empathy to  look out for the wellbeing of others and seek to understand their perspective

-Maintain a safe environment and contribute to the positive culture of the class

-Use resources to maintain lifelong fitness and help others do the same

-Develop their physical fitness in a variety of ways and have FUN doing it!
