Biographical Sketch:
I'm PROUD to be a teacher! I love being around (and getting to know) all these wonderful young people, and it's my privilege to help them become educated, productive adults.
I originally come from the mighty state of Vermont. As an undergraduate I discovered a love for learning about the evolution of our planet, so I went on to do a Master's in geochemistry. Before launching into a career, my wife and I joined the US Peace Corps, where we served two years in Honduras (I designed gravity flow water systems for mountain communities, and also produced a geologic map for the Honduran government). Back in the US, I started my first career with the US Geological Survey, and later Colorado State University, as a geochemist and geochronologist. I did that work for 12 years.
The thing is, I was born to be a teacher. I left CSU and became got my M.Ed. in 2006. I stared teaching ELA and Science at Poudre in 2007. I took a couple of years' leave to do a project with my old group from CSU (which allowed me move my family to Norway for a while). But I was drawn back to PHS, and have been teaching math since my return in 2014.
My best friend (and wife) Sheri and I have two grown boys (both Poudre alumni!). I love to be active and outside - whether it's mountain biking, skiing, running, hiking/backpacking, building stuff, or gardening. At the Markey house, we love to cook and eat healthy food with family and friends. Many of life's joys come from a kitchen!!
